More about Rev Steve Timpson and family....
Our Rector, the Reverend Steve Timpson, lives near Chantry, with his wife Marilou, and their four children. They share their home, with a fat tailed gecko named Stripey, a beta named Ruby, a lop eared bunny named Angel, and a dog named Oreo. The barn and chicken coop house three araucanas chickens, ten Suffolk sheep, a donkey named Teddy, and quite a number of barn cats. Their home is up for sale right now so they can move closer to St. John's.
The Timpson's have lived and worked in a number of different spots before coming to the Diocese of Ontario. Steve graduated from Queens Engineering, in April 1984 and had a varied career in engineering before leaving it to train for the ministry. Beginning at the Alcan Research Center in Kingston, he moved through a variety of positions in both technical and management roles and has worked in Kingston, Toronto, Gananoque, Kitimat BC, Whitefish Montana, and Sundsveld Sweden.
After Jesus; photography, farming and cycling are three of Steve's passions, although he often has trouble finding the time to do much of any of them. In both BC and Montana, raising sheep was a family affair, although Marilou was sure that the sheep always saved their ailments for when Steve was out of town. In the summer months Steve can often be found riding his Trek 5200 along the back roads early in the morning or at supper time. You can check out a few of Steve's photo's here.
In the summer of 2002, Steve spent a month living and working with the people of the Anglican Church of Kenya, near Thika outside of Nairobi, and found that as North American's we have much to learn from the African Church.
After graduation from Wycliffe College in Toronto with his M.Div. in May 2003, Steve acted as the Deacon-in-Charge of the Parish of Kingston North for the summer before coming to the Parish of the Rideau in September 2003. He was ordained priest on December 7th, 2003. Steve resigned as Regional Dean of Leeds and Grenville, and the Parish of the Rideau, to move to St. John's Bath on the 1st of September 2009.
Through all his travel's Steve has been constantly amazed at the way God is there in power where ever we are and how he reaches out to us all. Whether we are worshiping God in a traditional church, admiring his majesty in the mountains and lakes, or caring for our children, we were made to be God's children, and are only complete when we recognize and respond to this.
Steve is chairman of the Communications and Information Technology Committee of the Diocese of Ontario, is coordinator of the Fresh Start program of the Diocese of Ontario, and is a Licensed Professional Engineer.
